I am making an adapted Nigel Slater recipe tonight: new potatoes boiled then slightly bashed to open them; while they're cooking, cut up some streaky bacon into small pieces about 1cm long, and fry it along with finely chopped onion and mushrooms. Add creme fraiche and pour this mixture over the potatoes; top with chives or parsley, again chopped up. Add parmesan cheese if you feel like it.
Somehow food seems more important at the moment. We don't often go out for a meal, and occasionally have a takeaway, but I'm baking more than I normally do. Made a fruit cake yesterday. And carrot and parsnip soup. More soup to make (and freeze) tomorrow with the veg from the box we had on Friday. Sweetheart cabbage. two of them with large leaves. I'm the only one who eats it and a leaf is more than enough for a portion. If I start turning green you'll know why.

I haven’t been able to get my usual white bread flour only managing to get 50/50 white and whole meal and Granary. I like these but it is a different process to make them. So I have thrown out 3 loaves so far which is heartbreaking but we couldn’t eat them, not without being unwell. So today, after some googling I have found out where I was going wrong and have managed to produce 2 really good loaves.
