And another hot day in prospect.
It really is too hot to do the ironing, but it needs to be done.
Had a long talk with No2 Son yesterday, and then my cousin in Scotland phoned, and we chewed the fat on all kinds of different topics. He was telling me that his sister had sent him a bottle of rum by amazon, and the driver wouldn't hand it to him without written proof that he is over 18! He's 73, but needed to see my cousin's driving licence. Unbelievable.

Ah, so it is! Where is the year going so fast?
We 73 year olds are eternally young.

White rabbits! Morning, villagers. It was a balmy night last night (26 indoors well after 9) and it's almost as hot as that this morning. Ah, so many months, and so little we can do in them.

Greetings from warm and mostly sunny Oxfordshire. It's much more pleasant today.
I've had Facebook conversations with ED, her OH and YS, about schools reopening in the USA, and also about the FA Cup Final. I'm staying well out of that - ED's OH supports Arsenal and my sister-in-law supports Chelsea.
I'll go outside and do some gardening in a bit. It's absolutely gorgeous in the garden. OH has cleaned the Eglu and is now cutting the grass.
A letter came today from my optician, saying they are reopening with safety measures. I am due my regular eye test and can make an appointment. They cannot do the glaucoma test, which involves puffing air into the eyes.
Chicken report: Lottie and Dottie have laid eggs. There were 85 eggs last month.
Stay safe.

I hope to have an optician's appointment soon. I think the cataract in my left eye is worsening, but whether it's enough to need an op is the question. It's just causing a blur on the very edge of my vision. And I suspect that there will be a long hospital waiting list.

Strange day today in Scarborough.
Last night after arriving in boiling hot sunshine then dinner in the bar with a pint I took the chance to just chill in my room ending up watching a storm like I have only ever seen once or twice before.
Proper form lightning.
Then today when I was out and aboutin roasting sunshine again met up with some friends and we had a great day together.
Went on a lovely boat trip we did have about 40 minutes sitting on the beech and my friends little boy went for a paddle, his mum wasn't to pleased as they had bought him a bucket and spade and he emptied the bucket full of sand over his head .
Anyway we had a lovely fish and chips lunch and later went for a coffee.
Got back to the hotel about four.
Didn't think I would want much for dinner but have ended up having sausage egg and chips.
I've felt really run down and tired lately and feel this weekend has done me good especially getting to meet up with good company as well.
Only one slight mishap let's hope the hotel fire alarm doesn't go off at 0130 tonight

That sounds like a great day Steve. Be thankful you don't have to wash the sand out of the little boy's hair!!!

Ah.. 'twas noisy this morning, but now those Blasted Church bells have stopped clanging... Wonder if buses are now running, and access now available to the Wat Tylers (Nature reserve and Bird-hides). ... or maybe just a walk up to One-tree-Hill.. The Density of Summer leaf foliage in the Copse prevents watching the Thames.
..... But I can't see Scarborough from here.

Greetings, villagers, from mild, breezy and bright Oxfordshire. It's been mostly sunny.
Glad you made it to Scarborough, Steve.
I'm feeling more and more down, missing out on my Cornwall holiday, but we just don't think it is safe. I do wish we had a motor home, or even a caravan to go to.
I stayed up quite late last night going through my record of 2020, consisting of my posts from various messageboards. I've finished the first pass, but need to get OH's and YD's input, and check the accuracy of some things. I'm still wondering what to call it - "2020, the Plague Year", "2020, the Year when Nothing Happened", or "2020, the Year When the World Changed". I slept late today. At least I slept well. One of things that I noticed in my posts was how many bad nights there had been (I already had a sleep problem, but it wasn't nearly as bad).
OH ran some checks on my laptop while I was in bed. He hoped to stop this "waiting for cache" problem that freezes everything if I leave the computer unattended for more than a few minutes, or have too many pages open. Fnigres corssed.
YD seems to have settled into ED's old room for the summer. We hope she'll move in there permanently. It's much bigger than her room, which is really only suitable for a child, not a 25 year old. Goodness knows what YD is going to do after graduation. There simply are no jobs out there at the moment. Even her graduate friends from last year had found the job market difficult, and YD will be competing with some from then and next year as well as this. As my dad would have said - it's the law of the s*d! Coronavirus has played havoc in so many ways.
It's not really BBQ weather today so we are going to finish some leftover eggplant parmigiana, game sausages and ratatouille. That will free up some fridge space before our next supermarket delivery. I'll cook some rice to go with dinner. A wholemeal loaf is rising in the breadmaker.
Chicken report: the hens are sunbathing in the garden. Three eggs, from Lottie, Dottie and Griselda.
Stay safe.
