Greetings from very warm, humid and bright Oxfordshire. The sun keeps trying to break through but hasn't managed it for any length of time.
It wasn't too hot last night with the fan on in the bedroom, but having washing machine mind I still didn't get to sleep until after 2.30am, and woke up late. I'd had a Zoom meeting at 8.30pm with my sister and ED, which was supposed to finish in time for my Facetime one with YS and family at 9.15pm. It overran by over an hour. ED has a difficult decision to make and needed to talk things through. She's going to Facetime me later.
My Facetime with YS and family didn't end until 1.30am. I'd warned YS and DiL2 about talking to ED so they knew I might be late joining them. As well as chatting to CK1, CK4 and CK6, and updating YS and DiL2 I've now seen their amazingly productive new vegetable garden. They will be self-sufficient for several months.
No damage was done in YS's house by the 5.1 earthquake, though some pictures were shaken out of position. The only thing that actually fell down was a packet of Jaffa cakes! ES and kids slept through the earthquake, though DiL1 and the dog felt it. ED and family didn't notice it, but her neighbour did. YS and family all rushed outside in their pyjamas, taking the cats (they now have two, having been adopted by a ginger and white stray they are calling Weasley). None of their neighbours were woken by the earthquake so they were the only people outside.
YD has had her tutorial this morning. OH mopped the hall floor while YD and I were out of the way. He then went out for his daily walk, which is when the postman arrived with something that needed to be signed for. He couldn't make YD or me hear so I now have to arrange re-delivery.
Chicken report: Dottie and Griselda have laid eggs.
Stay safe.

Greetings, villagers, from hot, humid and sunny Oxfordshire. Where is everyone? Aestivating?
It's already 30°C here and due to go up to 33°C later. My absolutely least favourite weather. Even using NY tactics (cool shower before bed, not drying off but letting the water evaporate) I still didn't sleep much. Living through five summers in NY with no AC and summer temperatures going into the mid or even high 30s, sometimes for a month, was horrible. The highest was 39°C (102°F). At night it would still be in the low to mid 20s, which was not conducive to sleep. OH seemed to sleep all right last night. He'd gone to bed a bit before me and had opened all the windows and turned the fan on. I've now closed the windows, blinds and curtains against the sun. Our bedroom is south-facing and gets very warm. YD is still sleeping and studying in ED's old room, with her AC on. If I'd known the weather was going to be this hot I'd have bought another room AC for our bedroom.
OH went for his walk early, and has now gone in search of a new gas cylinder for the BBQ. We're onto the spare one.
The washing machine is on. No more housework will be done today.
Chicken report: Lottie and Dottie have laid eggs.
Stay safe.

Traffic chaos here. A possible jumper on a bridge over the A1 means the AI just by where we live has been closed since 3am, with no sign of reopening. Closing one of the country's major roads means minor roads around here are at a standstill.
Apart from that, however, it's warm and rather muggy, but the washing on the line should dry.

Greetings, villagers, from hot, humid and sunny Oxfordshire.
It's already 31°C and due to go a couple of degrees higher, with a chance of thunderstorms. There was one flash of lightning in the distance last night when I was out looking for meteors from the Perseid shower, but no clouds, let alone rain. Several meteors though, including a green one, which I am told by Steve was probably from space junk. It was really difficult to sleep in the bedroom, even with the fan on, and eventually I gave up, came downstairs where it was a few degrees cooler, and slept on the sofa with the other fan on. OH was able to sleep fairly well, and YD was of course fine in her room with the portable air conditioner running.
OH got up early because we were expecting a parcel to be redelivered. We all missed the postman on Monday. OH had been out on his walk, and YD and I were both asleep. The postman duly arrived today, at exactly the same time as the phone rang. My friend JA was checking whether I was still ok to host the next craft group meeting, and also wanted to know if we had any spare eggs. Her OH came and picked up a dozen. My OH went for his walk before it got too hot.
Chicken report: Lilith and Lottie have laid eggs.
Stay safe.

Hello again.
We're still sweltering in 33°C heat, but big black clouds are coming over and thunder can be heard!

We are in the middle of a cracking thunderstorm (they usually miss us), with loud thunderclaps, lightning, heavy rain, a little hail and a wonderfully refreshing cool breeze. OH will not have to water the garden tonight. All cats are now indoors, and the chickens are sheltering under the trampoline. Our planned BBQ this evening will be an pseudo one, indoors!

Phew! So hot! My first grandson celebrates becoming a Teenager today. I recall 2007 being an extremely wet year. Something to do with a bend in the jet. Stream. Never heard much about it until then. Anyway, I wish I could give it a twist right now.
We went to Great Yarmouth today where it was cooler, so some respite but just as hot when we got home. Keep safe, and cool, everyone

Morning, villagers. The thunderstorm which reached Cookiepuss yesterday didn't reach us, but it is forecast that one will reach us this afternoon. I don't have to be outdoors in it and I'll be glad of cooler temps, cooler nights, and days when I don't have to worry about the PC overheating.

Good morning, villagers, from mild, overcast and damp Oxfordshire.
I've tried to join today's Zoom coffee morning but the link doesn't work. Like last week's one it says there is another meeting going on. I messaged JA on Facebook and she said she couldn't get in either. So I emailed A the usual host but no reply, and messaged JB who takes over if A can't host it. No reply there either. This is annoying because I wanted to discuss what to put in September's edition of the village magazine.
OH is going for his daily walk while the weather holds. There's the chance of thunderstorms all afternoon and evening. We had an amazing storm yesterday afternoon.
I'm having my hair cut this afternoon. Customers now have to wear masks. Not sure how that's going to work.
Chicken report: three eggs, from Pearl, Lottie and Lilith, but Pearl's was broken again.
Stay safe.

No rain or storms forecast here, it's very heavily clouded with some slight drizzle an hour or so ago.
All ironing is done, so just my sewing to do now.

Don’t know if we will get any rain here. Hopefully so but.
OH has been building me a Hedgehog box for our resident Hedgehog as per Wildlife instructions. It’s turning out bigger than I expected but I think it’s so there can be a lot of bedding, hay, Leaves etc. Hope he likes it as there has been a great deal of sweat and swearing gone into its making

We left possible bedding outside the hedgehog house and the hedgehog dragged it inside. Dried ferns, etc..
