Greetings, villagers, from mild and grey Oxfordshire. OH felt cold last night and turned the central heating on for the first time. YD has had her online tutorial. OH has been for his swim and is going for his walk. A load of parcels have arrived today - M&S clothes, and Lego and Playmobil Advent calendars for the Cookiekittens. I'll send them all in one box, together with the rest of the hair slides I've made. tinyurl.com/yyq59gxfI thought I would sleep better last night, having had a bad night previously, but no. I woke up from a nightmare about a visiting toddler taking two of our chickens, Nellie and Griselda, putting them to bed in her cot, and accidentally smothering them with the pillow and duvet. Explain that dream, if you can! JA rang to check if I'm still ok to host craft group on Monday. Then she rang back to see if she could come round for a coffee and a chat, Unfortunately OH and I are going out. I was successful last night in booking a place at aqua for Tuesday evening. I sat in front of the laptop refreshing the page until on the dot of 10pm I was able to book. There were only four spaces left by then. I've told Di to expect me! Now I'll have to do it all over again tomorrow for Thursday's class. Bookings open five days in advance, but for some reason I can't book until 10pm while some other people can do it earlier. There's not even a helpline on the website as far as I can see. Chicken report: only one egg today, laid by Lottie in the main part of the Eglu. One of the hens had trodden on it and broken it. No eggs yesterday, which is unusual. Have the hens stopped laying or are they hiding their eggs? YD is checking on them and making sure they have enough vitamins, calcium etc. Stay safe.

Who's going to look after Tricky-Woo now? 🙈 Uncle Herriot of course. Train him to round up the animals he needs to examine. I'm enjoying the new series.

Me too. I think they've caught the essence of the original. I'm a bit disappointed they aren't using the music at the beginning though.

I've been to the optician today. The upshot is that I can't drive till I get s new lens in my glasses. A bit of a nuisance, as OH will have to drive me to church on Sunday, and collect me too. OH is making beef Wellington for dinner. I am drinking brandy.

Probably copyright issues re the music, Teddy. But the introduction is like the old guidebook covers. I like it.

Today is "putting everything back into the caravan" day. No1 Son is coming to help, so I hope it won't take too long. It's a dry day with some blue sky and sunshine.

Good morning, villagers, from mild and sunny Oxfordshire.
OH and I are about to go to Charlbury farmers' market. It's only on four times a year and is a good one.
Back later.
Stay safe.

Hello again. Today is CK4's 4th birthday. The US family will be gathering later for a party. CK4 enjoying the sprinkler: tinyurl.com/y662qhsjCK4's cake, made by her very talented mum: tinyurl.com/yyy39u9jOH and I are back from an excellent farmers' market. Amongst other things I have bought a duck for tomorrow's dinner, breads, cheeses, salad dressing, pork pie, charcuterie, plums, two types of marmalade, apple and brandy jelly, mulberries and four types of apple juice. I was given given a Festival apple because I didn't know that variety, so now I can compare the fruit with the juice, and I was also given some apple puree, which will go nicely with the duck, as will the apple and brandy jelly. I've been really careful when eating lunch as yesterday the phone rang just as I'd finished eating and I rushed to answer it because OH hadn't finished. As I sat down again I felt the food sink like a stone and I just knew I'd have indigestion and heartburn. I did, all afternoon, evening and night until about 5am. I did manage some sleep after taking Gaviscon and paracetamol. It doesn't often happen but I never know what will trigger it (new bread, sitting in a car too long, not waiting to digest for ten minutes, etc) and it doesn't really respond to treatment. One of YD's friends, KU from university, came earlier to exchange foods (socially distanced). A mutual friend in France had sent three jars of honey from his own bees, one for YD and one each for KU and another friend in Birmingham. We'll have to send that one on. KU (Polish family) brought us a lovely trifle-like Polish dessert he'd made using cream, chocolate sponge and blackberries from his garden. We gave him some eggs from our hens. OH is now cleaning the paths and the Eglu. Chicken report: the hens are enjoying sunbathing and sleeping in dust baths in the garden. One egg, from Lilith. OH found a broken Pearl egg in the Eglu. Both last night and the night before I found evidence of a broken egg in the nest box. We hope we don't have an egg-eater. That would be very bad news. I tried separating the hens, putting Lottie in the old Eglu for the night, to see if I could narrow it down, but she was unhappy so I put Lilith in with her. It didn't work. Both were so distressed that there was no chance that they would lay eggs. We'll just have to check more often.

Good morning, villagers, from warm and sunny Oxfordshire. It's due to go to 22°C today and even higher the next two days.
YD had her computer game evening last night and as promised they ended early so as not to disturb our sleep. They started early as well, taking a break for YD to have dinner. I'd made shepherd's pie and we had some of the Polish dessert that YD's friend had made. It was very good, with a base of crumbled chocolate biscuit, a layer of whipped cream, and blackberries in jelly on top.
OH left me to sleep late and I feel a lot less tired than recently.
We're having roast duck for dinner tonight. Of course the weather has now turned warm again! It's not humid though and the sun will have gone away from the kitchen windows by this evening so I should be ok.
Chicken report: no eggs yet. Nellie decided to roost in the old Eglu last night, all on her own. I'd forgotten to shut the door again. We didn't like to move her as she had settled.
Stay safe.
