Greetings, villagers, from cold and occasionally sunny Oxfordshire. There was a thin layer of ice on the chickens' water this morning, but not enough to prevent them from drinking.
Get well soon, GLO.
Well, the electricity seems to be back to normal today, though we really must get the circuits sorted. They are eccentric to say the least.
I am taking a break from writing the Christmas cards. I'm about halfway through now.
YD will be making pizza tonight while I'm at aqua. I had planned it for last night when I thought there would be plenty of time, but of course without electricity nothing could be baked. The dough seems to have survived. It's been cold enough in the utility room where the breadmaker is to stop the dough rising.
Chicken report: Dottie has laid an egg.
Stay safe.

Good evening villagers.
Not had a good day at work as it rained really heavy today and I got home soaked.
Then got a message on Facebook that a good friend has tested positive for Covid

Greetings, villagers, from cold and overcast Oxfordshire.
Sorry to hear that, Steve. I hope your friend recovers quickly.
I slept pretty well after last night's aqua, only woken by YD going to the bathroom. The floorboards creak. I have remembered to book next Tuesday's class. Aqua will continue twice a week during the holidays, on the same days but at a different time, 10am instead of 7pm. This is because a) they want to make up as much lost income as possible after the second lockdown and b) the leisure centre will be closing at 3pm as usual during the holidays.
YD has her weekly livestream this afternoon. She made pizza last night while I was out, and it turned out very well. The dough had risen slowly in the cool utility room and made a thicker, softer and chewier base.
OH posted all the Christmas cards while out twice, firstly to pick up a couple of prescriptions and secondly on his daily walk.
Chicken report: Griselda has laid an egg. There is a mysterious chicken explosion of white feathers in the back garden. Pearl and Lottie, our two white hens, have both already moulted this autumn, though they were partial moults. I suspect Lottie is having a second partial one. Pearl is a slimmer hen and feather loss is more noticeable on her.
Stay safe.

Hi everyone. Just catching up on the posts. Blimey CP, sounds like you had a bit of a nightmare with your Electricity. But you managed with gas hob. We had an issue similar to yours but my dual fuel cooker for reasons I cannot fathom does not allow me to use the Hob if the electric goes off! It just won’t stay lit. Anyway, glad you’re ok now. We have been clearing the lounge dining room In readiness for Plasterer tomorrow. Not looking forward to the inevitable mess although I know Adam will try to keep it to a minimum. Keep telling myself it will be lovely when done

Good morning, villagers, from cold and overcast Oxfordshire.
OH overslept (he usually gets up at 7am) but I woke up early (for me) at 8.30am after another good night's sleep. The reason why? A courier is due between 8.30am and 5pm to collect the parcel for YD's friend in Finland. It's amazing how the subconscious works. I knew I had to be awake then. This meant that I was in time for the Zoom coffee morning, which I rarely am. Of course the computer then decided to do an update which took nearly an hour, but by the time I'd had a shower and eaten breakfast it had finished. The courier has not yet arrived. OH is about to go to Abingdon. He was invited to be part of a survey on heart disease and is having an ultrasound on his heart at the local hospital. He's also going to buy lightbulbs and a few DIY supplies, and will post one last Christmas card (I had to check the address was correct) and a small parcel for ED.
Chicken report: Dottie has laid an egg.
Stay safe.

Not a lot really, we've had quite a time recently on top of all the Covid stuff.

Not exciting here either (sorry: I fell asleep since my last missive)
Has Covid had any direct effect on yourseves? Not here, but... This area has a prize: The most densley Covid'd area in the country. At least, it is today: last week it was the other end of this town.
PS: It's 11th Dec...... is it time to start the sprouts boiling yet?

We were in the lowest tier, we've now been 'upgraded' We're rural, so only two deaths locally.

It had been tier two here, but when/if the upgrade appears we (i.e., the borough) will be the fiercest tier. Much of The London boroughs are under threat of of upgrade, but it looks like The workers in London (i.e.more workers than dwellers in London) employs commuters from here..... (Essex)
I had a Medic appoint Yesterday, and they have been much more meticulous than other recent medics... Half hour intervals; asked to be prompt, but not early; Self and Nursey to be seen from a distance that masks are in place; No receptionists; Don't touch the door, Nursey will open the door when she calls you, and again, when leaving to get booted (it was a podiatry exam) where you are, and nursey will open the door so that one doesn't need to touch it; then straight out witout reading the notices or passing by others in the waiting rooms...

Greetings, villagers, from slightly less cold but still overcast Oxfordshire. We've had a few showers.
We're in Tier 2, though there are far fewer cases per head of Covid in the village than in Oxford. It has been rising recently though.
I was expecting two food orders to be delivered today. One duly arrived this morning. When I got round to checking my emails just now there was a message to say the other had been delivered to a neighbour across the road. Both were via DPD, and I was in. I heard a knock on the door. When I answered the parcel was on the doorstep and the van was on the shared part of the driveway. Why on earth did the driver not leave the other parcel? If he drove off forgetting it why did he not return to my house? Weird. I don't even know the neighbour, who is new here. My friends who used to live there recently moved to a bigger house in the next village.
OH has been for his walk, and stopped off at the post office on the way, to send three gingerbread men I'd made last night for my cousin-once-removed P, his wife L and baby J (almost seven months now!). I messaged P on FB to tell him the package was on its way, and he said he's now working from home. He's a teacher in a secondary school in Berkshire which has had to close due to an upsurge in Covid cases.
ED tells me that CK2 has an exam tomorrow for her next karate belt. Sadly, because of Covid restrictions parents can no longer watch, so ED is taking the opportunity to go shopping for stocking fillers without CK2 seeing. She has shared out the chocolates and silver necklaces in the latest parcel I'd sent (CK1 had first choice of three cat necklaces, and there was a dinosaur footprint one as well, with matching earrings), but ED still has to wrap DiL1's and DiL2's jumpers.
Chicken report: Dottie and Griselda have laid eggs. Three of the hens were locked out of the Eglu last night when I went to check. Lottie and Griselda were on the ground and Dottie was on top of the run. They all went in quickly when I opened the automatic door, but as it closed again there was a squawk from Griselda, the last one in. She'd got her tail feathers caught in the door! I had to open the door again. She moved further in, very quickly!
Stay safe.

Greetings, villagers, from cool, breezy and mostly clear Oxfordshire.
Panic is over about the apparently mis-delivered parcel yesterday. It turned out not to be my one at all, but the one I'd ordered for my sister. The notification came to me! Her next door neighbour took it in for her because all her family were out at work. Three parcels have arrived safely here today, one of them OH's present from ED and family.
I'm late in here today because OH and I have been to Charlbury farmers' market. It's a good one, only on four times a year, and quite a distance from us. We have to go through Witney to get there, which involves crossing a narrow bridge where there is often a traffic jam. We now have lots of good food and I have spread a little happiness by giving out my felt Christmas tree decorations to the stallholders. It wasn't easy getting up so early. YD hadn't helped by still being online until late. I had to go and have words yet again. She doesn't realise how loudly she is laughing and talking when she has headphones on. She has her role-playing game evening today from 4pm until midnight.
There are two more farmers' markets for me before Christmas - Abingdon on Friday and Deddington on Saturday. I hope to be able to find some mistletoe at one of them. There was none today. I usually buy it at Charlbury or when I go to Bath Christmas Market, which is not on this year of course. There are plenty of trees with mistletoe in, on the way to Charlbury. Unfortunately the mistletoe is about 30ft up! We only go to Deddington at Christmas though the farmers' market is on monthly, because it is right in the north of the county, almost as far as Banbury.
OH has cleaned the Eglu and is now washing the cars. The weather forecast is not good for tomorrow, which is why we went out early today. We could be back several hours before it got dark so OH could do outside work.
Curry, naan bread and samosas from the market for OH and me for dinner. YD will have steak and chips.
Chicken report: Dottie has laid an egg. She was shut out of the Eglu last night when OH went to check, but he managed to persuade her to go in (i.e. prodded her with a stick!)
Stay safe.
