White rabbits, and happy new year! I got very little sleep last night so I'm relying on a good tall mug of coffee to jolt me into January.

Good morning villagers and a very happy new year to all.
Remember new year's Day is the first page in the first chapter of a new years story in your life.
Try to make it the best story you possibly can

Happy New Year!
White rabbits, white rabbits, white rabbits.
It is just above freezing now but very grey and dull. OH had to break the ice on the chickens' water again this morning.
We had our traditional New Year's breakfast of scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on toast and buck's fizz, the same as on Christmas Day. Then we watched the New Year's concert from Vienna. It was strange to see the hall without an audience, though they did have applause via Zoom from viewers worldwide. It's repeated later on BBC4 and available on iPlayer.
While listening to the music I looked out of the window and saw a lot of activity on the bird feeders in the front garden. We had two robins, so they have already paired up, lots of blue tits, great tits, long-tailed tits and coal tits, Mr and Mrs Blackbird, a dunnock, a wood pigeon...and for the first time in the almost 20 years we've lived here, a blackcap! Later on Mrs Grey Squirrel arrived and was hanging upside down on the peanut feeder nibbling away. I shall have to brave the cold and go out there to replace suet balls and seed mix.
Chicken report: Dottie and Pearl(!) have laid eggs.
Stay safe.

I'm fortunate that I have no problem in sleeping, most of the time. Sleepless nights are rare for me.

OH was apparently awake from 3 to 6, but then did get to sleep and we both awoke after 8. OW, I don't know how you manage on so little sleep; I'm useless if I don't get about 8 hours at the least! There's been a covering of snow overnight - about 1cm at most, I think.
I have almost run out of brandy, so will have to shop at some point today.
