There appear to be a number of visitors to The Village Pump. However, very few people actually post.
It could be that people are fleetingly curious. It could be that they look in and don't see threads that interest them.
But if no-one start threads, there won't be any. Obviously.
It's up to members. If you want to keep this board going, post. Any subject. The more variety the better.
If not, then I'll let TVP gently fade into history.

Noted and will try to comply. It would be a pity to let your hard work fade into oblivion.

I think it feels warm and cosy, perfect for the nights drawing in. It is a little gem. I feel like I am getting to know some lovely new friends.
Whats not to like!

That old tube is well looked after and looks great. Hope you enjoyed your ride.

That was Last year. But alas.... Her Boiler(s) reached the end of their insurable life, so she is stuck in Glasgow this season having her "op".
A few years ago, she broke a crankshaft ot Tilbury Dock. It took a day to get a new crank brought down from Scotland within 36 hours, and fitted a day later. Back on schedule immediately after - Not exactly a "stocked" spare in your car dealer - Damn good service, but that poor old "Vulcan" has been idle in Southend Airport for years...

Now you mention that, I vaguely recall reading that Waverley's usual summer cruises, Scotland, Lancashire and Welsh coasts had been cancelled. What a shame. I hope they can find a work round and manage to rebuild the boiler or find a replacement. We're very wasteful in how we preserve or fail to, historic vehicles and vessels etc.

I Understand the new boiler is built, and the re-fit is underway.

That's good to hear, GLO. Long may she continue to sail, when it's done.
She's still a youngster, compared to some of the American (River) paddle steamers.

I still feel a bit sad about missing our trip around Ailsa Craig a few years ago. It was cancelled at the last minute because of "adverse weather conditions". Unfortunately, nobody thought to contact us would-be passengers, who duly turned up at Girvan and waited...and waited, watching a beautiful sunlit and flat calm sea, before phoning the company. I've never figured out why the weather conditions were considered too bad, though I suppose it might have been rougher nearer the island. We saw the Waverley a couple of times during our holiday, but still haven't sailed on her.

Trouble is with Waverley is that it has enormous capacity, and it isn't easy to get a space by the rail (or by the window), nor cross from one side to the other, nor to get a good viewpoint at the errrr errr, "Sharp" end, or the Blunt end come to that.
