I can knit without looking at my hands all the time and the knitting. Have been able to for years. People watch me for a while, then say with a note of healthy incredulity in their voice, "You're doing it without looking." My hands work on their own much of the time. I look at them and it almost seems they're nothing to do with me. Strange feeling but I'm used to it after all these years. But you couldn't leave your hands in one room, or pockets. Yet still knit. Hope your back is a lot better tomorrow, Merm's. Glad you caught the missing salmon.

It would be difficult as my hands are attached to my arms.
Fingers crossed - back is easier.

Cartwheel........ No Cartwheels. BUT.... I remember a Secretary talking about Wheels. It didn't click in my mind that the Office where we worked, was below Coopers Hill... Yes THAT Coopers Hill! It was only when I saw the TV News with This Secretary Chasing the Wheel of Cheese Down Coopers Hill. I didn't know She would even See The Cheese without her Glasses?

I can't swim, do anything vaguely resembling gymnastics, or ride a bike. I can knit, sew and make good pastry. And I agree, you don't have to watch your hands all the time when you're knitting, except for the more complicated stuff.

Hands can be on autopilot, eh, Judith?
St st: k1,p1 rib: k2, p2 rib: k3, p1: etc.. All straightforward stuff. Tell the hands what's expected of them, let them get on with it and the brain can wander off elsewhere.

Is that the rule for everywhere? Just tell the hands what is expected of them and leave them to get on with it, whilst the brain is engaged on other matters? How does that work when you are driving?

It doesn't work for driving, but it certainly works for knitting.

I was useless as well, Judith. I never managed a cartwheel. I could never work out which limb went where. So if I can after this, it'll be a miracle. I could do the bumps when skipping though. And I wasn't bad on roller skates. I could ride a bike but never hands free. But I CAN knit! I could never ever do cartwheels either, or climb the ropes in the gym or dangle off the school railings.

I will demonstrate when we meet. I used to enjoy breaking-up demonstrations.

Something fell on my foot. Has Someone Dropped a Stitch? I have an old Anvil here. It's a tad discoloured and only used as a garden ornament. But I'm willing to lift it up and drop it on your foot if that's any help, GLO... If the previous thing that fell on your foot, was lighter, at least then, you'd know it wasn't an anvil.

I was never that fussed about cartwheels and floor exercises at school, Dapply. But I used to enjoy climbing ropes and the vaulting and pommel. horses. A class-mate, IMO invented Parkour, years before the French did. He was really into climbing up the outside of buildings and working his way across the roof etc. He had a few (fortunately) minor falls, but was always soon back. Not seen or heard of him, for years.
